Perched atop the 70th floor of Swissotel The Stamford, Equinox Restaurant boasts the most amazing views of the Singapore skyline. The restaurant takes advantage of this by intentionally dimming the lights (some may say it’s too dark) and having floor-to-ceiling glass windows line with dining tables. There are more tables including booth seats upstairs that offer decent views too. These are not too close to each other, offering a sort of privacy amongst diners.
Work up your appetite by ordering the carabinero prawns. The huge seafood comes de-shelled and slightly torched without losing its juiciness and sweetness. Carrot puree and mango salad not only decorate the plate but cut the brininess and add different layers of flavours.
Next up, the black cod is soft with just the right amount of smokiness that complements the spiced yogurt dressing. Another signature, the brandt tenderloin, is grilled to your desired doneness (we recommend medium rare). It’s not too fatty, which we liked, not too tough nor too tender. It comes with your choice of sauces: pepper, béarnaise, cabernet sauvignon, smoked barbecue, black truffle butter, bourbon mushroom. But we can eat it on its own anytime.
Desserts come in a different menu. If you still have space, order the Grand Assiette of Dessert Selection which is a tasting platter of their best desserts. But if you have one space for one, go for the ivory chocolate mousse. It just has the right sweetness and creaminess to end the meal on a high.
The restaurant has this ‘date place’ feel so they carry good wines sourced from the Old and New World. There’s a good choice of housepours as well as wines by the bottle. Prices range from very affordable to expensive.
Staff are professional and friendly from the telephone booking to the dinner itself. They are knowledgeable of the dishes they serve, hence questions are easily answered. The restaurant tends to be packed during weekends. Service tends to be slow on those nights.
The restaurant is a bit on the high side; be prepared to fork out about $60 each for lunch and $100 for dinner. But here’s what you’ll get: sumptuous food and fantastic views.
